Welcome to the Kestrels' Field sports and P.E. page
Extra Curricular P.E.
At Kestrels' Field, we take part in many competitive fixtures throughout the year. Here are some of our most recent achievements...
After a successful first term, the Year 5/6 Football Team have progressed to the second stage of the Leicester City Schools Football League. Our first matches of the new year have been varied: 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. However, our team played brilliantly together, despite a few of our usual players being missing. Particularly well done to the Year 6 boys who set a brilliant example to our younger players, managing winning and losing with dignity.
The photos don't quite show just how cold it actually was!
The Kestrels' Basketball Team have had huge successes already this year. We have had many fixtures and topped our group winning all our games. There was some fantastic shooting - well done to Bailey and Dane for their awesome layups!
In our first netball tournament this year, we did well coming sixth (out of twenty-five schools) and for many of our players, it was their first ever competitive netball match. There will be more netball fixtures this term; league games will be played at Soar Valley Community College Netball Centre.
At Kestrels' Field we offer a broad and varied curriculum. Children experience a range of individual and team sports that teach them physical skills like co-ordination and control; social skills including teamwork and communication; and personal skills such as resilience and determination. Pupil leadership is strongly encouraged and children take on a variety of roles within lessons: coaching and evaluating their own and others performance. Children learn the importance of living a healthy active lifestyle and the effects of regular exercise on the body and mind.
Below is some of the work we are doing at the moment...
Within PE this term, Year 2 are learning gymnastics. This week they have been learning how to land properly when jumping from a piece of apparatus. They were so confident when jumping and did some beautiful landing poses too!
Badminton! After learning how to hold the racket correctly, children are learning a variety of technical shots including the serve, clear, smash and drop shpt. At the end of the unit, there will be an opportunity for a selection of children to take part in a doubles badminton tournament against other schools in the city - these children will be notified closer to the time. Here are some of our children in action:
